Wacht am Rhein
SPI’s Wacht Am Rhein and Decision Games’ Wacht Am Rhein 2
Wacht am Rhein is a operational game on the Battle of the Bulge. The units are battalions with some companies. The game covers the entire battle through the creation and limination of the bulge. The image above is taken from the ADC2 set I created for the game. The game was published by SPI in 1977. It is one the best wargames ever produced, and draws high prices on eBay. The game system inspired the system for People’s Wargames Korsun Pocket, and was modified for SPI’s Atlantic Wall. Korsun Pocket is a massive game, but the modifications were well done. Atlantic Wall was not a successful game mainly due play balance problems. I have a number of files here, so take a look!
Wacht came in a flat try version and a boxed version. The boxed version is very rare and prized by bidders on eBay.
On just about every copy of Wacht I have seen over half the counters are reverse die cut. That is the full strength side is die cut to be the bottom. Only the boxed versions of Wacht seem to have the counters correctly die cut. I happen to have one!

Some Optional Rules from somewhere
At left is the box cover for the DG’s Wacht Am Rhein 2. It is not an update of the old version but is a different game that is the same scale as the old game. It is much more complex and detailed. The rules are being worked on again, as the rules in the box are poor.
